Abstract

The physician plays a critical role in the identification and treatment of the suicidal patients. Studies show that 75 % of patients who subsequently committed suicide had seen a phyician within 6 months of their death and 60 % of such patients had seen a phycian within 1 month of their death. Frequently the complaints voiced by such patients are somatic symptoms associated-with depression. These findings strongly suggest an opportunity for a physician to anticipate the possibility of suicide and to refer the patient to an appropriate mental health professional for psychiatric diagnosis and treatment.
Authors have experienced a case of suicide attempt with psychotic depression, and the entire history of clinical pictures and the hospital cares of the case were illustrated. The authors reviewed the :etiological and therapeutic aspect of suicide and the Estimation of Suicide Risk.
